The Privilege of Knowledge and Useful Critical Interventions

Abstract

UK higher education is not in a managed transition. It is in free fall. Analysis by Times Higher Education in early 2025 found that around one in three UK universities which had published accounts for 2023-24 reported operating deficits, up from approximately a fifth the year before. The Office for Students warned that three-quarters of English providers could be in deficit by 2025-26 without mitigating action. What is AI’s role in this?
